About the Role

Our client is a QLD government organisation based in the Brisbane CBD. They are currently seeking an Accounting and Financial Reporting Specialist to come in and work with them on a temp contract opportunity for up to 12 months.

Candidates for this role must have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or similar OR CA/CPA qualification
  • Extensive experience in taxation and technical accounting and statutory reporting within a large, complex organisation
  • SAP system experience (Desirable)
  • Previous government experience

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Technical Accounting & Compliance: Provide expert input to ensure financial reporting complies with Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and policies.
  • Taxation & Regulatory Advice: Serve as the authoritative expert on GST, FBT, Payroll Tax, and National Competition Policy (NCP) compliance and returns.
  • Statutory Financial Reporting: Support the preparation of consolidated financial statements and deliver high-quality reports for the Audit Committee.
  • Business Partnering: Collaborate with internal business units and controlled entities to resolve complex accounting and tax issues.
  • Audit & Stakeholder Management: Lead interactions with external auditors and regulators to meet all statutory financial obligations.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive process, system, and internal control enhancements across financial reporting, and deliver special projects.
  • Training & Horizon Scanning: Monitor emerging legislative and accounting changes to provide proactive advice and deliver technical training.

About You

You will be an experienced Accounting & Financial Reporting professional with proven experience and reliability in previous positions.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Extensive experience in taxation and technical accounting and statutory reporting within a large, complex organisation
  • SAP system experience
  • Proven ability to interpret and apply Australian Accounting Standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and embedding financial reporting frameworks, policies and controls.
